HIS VOICE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

hear_GodRecently I was struggling with a physical ailment that seemed to be taking forever to overcome.  After a few weeks, I had a nagging thought: “What if this is something really bad?”  I ignored the thought for several days, but gradually it took ahold of my thinking and I started stuggling withvall sorts of scary possibilities.  It actually got so bad that I told Ellen what was going on, and decided to go to the doctor and get it checked out.

Thankfully, our God is a God who speaks!

Just talking to Ellen brought some relief from my fears, but it wasn’t until I heard from the Lord that my fears lost their power.  It was a morning like many others.  I sat before the Lord and began spending some time in worship.

Frequently I follow a reading plan that guides me through the scriptures, but on this occasion I felt led to wait for a while in God’s presence and ask if there was any particular scripture he wanted me to read.  Almost immediately, a phrase came to my mind. “Don’t fear the pestilence that stalks in the night.”

I quickly typed those words into google and  Psalm 91:5 popped up.  Here are some of the surrounding verses:

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty . . .
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

I spent the next half hour dwelling on the words in this passage.  As I did so, I heard the quiet voice of the Spirit reassuring me that this was his promise to me personally.  What a joy to soak in the presence of God that accompanied his voice.

What do you need to hear God’s voice speak to you about?   Are there any fears that are nagging at you?  Any confusion?  Any wisdom that you need?

What a blessing to know that we serve a God who speaks.  May God bless you today with his reassuring voice.
